This city is on the way to the golden rock pagoda at Kyaiktiyo. The city of Bago has more surprises then the guidebooks will tell you, so read this section. When we were there there was a serious grasshopper problem. Restaurants and hotels were full of them. Like all other cities, there was sometimes no electricity.

The national airline for domestic flights is Lao Aviation. Vientiane is their homebase. Their safety record is terrible (have a look at www.airsafe.com for details), and they mostly use Chinese planes (YUN 12 & 7) and some helicopters. Vientiane doesn't look like the capital of Laos, but more like a provincial town. Streets are only partly paved, so in dry season it can get very dusty, after rain it can become pretty muddy.
